This instructional design, titled "AI-Assisted Scientific Argumentation: Interactive Learning Design Using Solar Energy Issues as Context," shares how a science teacher can work with AI to design a clear guidance framework. It helps students engage in meaningful learning about real-world issues even with limited AI tools, while solving common classroom pain points such as a lack of argumentation structure and reliance on AI ghostwriting. The core AI applications in this lesson plan are as follows:
Teacher's Side (AI-Assisted Development of Instructional Simulators): The teacher worked with Google Gemini to write HTML code and develop interactive simulators. The main purpose is to support classroom teaching, letting students discover scenarios through hands-on operation and guiding them to notice real dilemmas, like the conflict between electricity demands and environmental protection.
Student's Side (Dual-Layer AI Support Framework Paired with e-Do): To handle the limitations of student access to open conversational AI in the classroom, the teacher used AI to create a dual-layer support framework paired with the Ministry of Education's "e-Do" platform:
First Layer (CER Basic Practice Tool): This tool guides students through preliminary practice of the "Claim-Evidence-Reasoning" structure. Once completed here, students can directly copy and paste their work into e-Do to practice building a clear argumentation structure.
Second Layer (Conditional Argumentation and Logic Evaluation Tool): Students can choose different role perspectives to practice making statements of "conditional support or opposition". At this stage, the AI acts as a logic evaluator, checking whether students clearly explain under what conditions they support or oppose the issue, thereby helping safeguard students' reasoning logic.
Although this lesson plan has completed tool development and procedure design and is currently in the final refinement stage before classroom implementation, pilot runs have already shown the great potential of AI in guiding logical thinking.
