This submission presents the interdisciplinary project-based curriculum “Circling Qigu: Playing Out the Charm of Our Hometown,” implemented with fourth-grade students at Shulin Elementary School in Tainan City. In response to a retired director’s commission to design a local Monopoly-style board game, the curriculum innovatively positioned AI as a form of “digital scaffolding.”
Through human–AI collaboration, elementary students learned to guide AI in generating realistic local-scene images, thereby overcoming limitations in drawing skills and avoiding copyright concerns. They also used AI writing tools to transform extensive fieldwork data and SDGs-related issues into game cards, while employing AI-assisted calculation to balance the economic mechanisms of the game system.
Over the course of 40 lessons, the AI teaching assistant shifted students’ cognitive focus from labor-intensive processing to higher-order decision-making, enabling them to efficiently produce 54 professional-quality game cards. This curriculum not only addressed key challenges related to copyright and game-system imbalance, but also deepened students’ local identity, empowering them to become active young advocates for their hometown.
